Lotus Launch E20

Lotus E20

The E20 was launched via the team’s official website as well as the Lotus F1 channel.

The iconic gold and black livery colour scheme seen on the R31 in 2011 is once again present on the E20. The colour is recognised by motorsport fans from past decades when Team Lotus cars  in the 1970’s and 80’s were decorated in John Player Special paint work.

Lotus Chariman Gerard Lopez may possibly be praying the revival of such an iconic image will help the former Renault team return to their winning ways.

The squad have already stated this season they have aspirations to reach fourth place in the Constructors Standings after a rather disappointing 2011 season.

From the exterior, the E20 has the anticipated lowered front nose which all cars launched so far have, apart from McLaren. The ‘dip’ could be described as being  less extreme compared to other 2012 cars, most notably, the F2012.

Eric Boullier, team principle of Lotus said “the team has a good reputation for innovation, we have brought some nice ones over the last years but definitely we have some this year”.

The team wish to regain their former success as saw when it was Benetton and Renault.  This desire for success has resulted in the comeback of the Iceman, Kimi Raikkonen  to Formula 1.  He has been signed by the team on a two-year contract. This year will see the Finn drive alongside the 2011 GP2 Champion, Romain Grosjean. The former Virgin (now Marussia) driver Jerome d’Ambrosio will be the team’s Reserve Driver.
